Posts on Creativity, Writing, and the Inner Life

Once upon a time, I was a psychotherapist in private practice seeing my clients and minding my own business. Then one day in December 1999, I wrote a little story in my journal. The idea was to write down this inner character’s story so he’d stop pestering me. Ha!

That little story opened the floodgates. Eighteen years later, I’ve retired from my practice, and, much to my surprise, have written The Star Seer’s Prophecy, a fantasy trilogy of sacrifice and redemption on the healing journey toward love and awakening.

How’d this happen, you ask? It wasn’t my idea! This character, whose name turned out to be Kyr, had quite a journey to go on. The only way he could do it was to take over my life and turn me into a writer. When those floodgates opened, a rush of intense, exciting creative energy poured forth. I didn’t want to do anything but write Kyr’s story.

I had no plan. I just went with the flow and wrote what Kyr showed me. His story started out so dark that I was sure I would never show it to anyone, ever. But it was so much fun to write, I had to keep on going. It was the only way to find out what happened next! And his journey spiraled through darkness and light, moving inevitably toward healing, forgiveness, compassion, and love.

In a way, my whole life was preparation to write Kyr’s story. In one version or another, he has been lurking in my dreams and fantasy life since I can remember. After decades of personal growth work; after becoming a licensed psychotherapist and working with clients for twenty years; after writing journals full of reflections, poetry and dreamwork; after many adventures, vision quests and spiritual awakenings; and finally, after becoming an Expressive Arts therapist, I was ready. I’d learned to trust the creative process and my soul’s secret wisdom, and was able to allow Kyr’s story to pour forth without censoring or editing the first draft.

Once I reached the end of that draft, I understood what the story was about, and reshaped it quite a bit. Then I realized that I’d written an entire fantasy trilogy – and that I needed help! Luckily, I found my editor and now publisher, Naomi Rose. With her editorial guidance, support, and faith in my books, I revised and refined what became the three books of The Star Seer’s Prophecy.

Dark Innocence (Book One) was published in 2012 by Rose Press.
Fierce  Blessings (Book Two) was published in in 2015 by Rose Press.
Perilous Bliss
(Book Three) was published on January 31st, 2018 by Rose Press.

Note: These books delve deep and take the reader on an inspiring and emotional journey through a realm of evil and redemption, suffering and forgiveness, secrets and forbidden love. They are recommended for adults who want to be challenged, touched, and inspired, but they are not for the faint-hearted or straight-laced.

The Star-Seer’s Prophecy confronts the evil and cruelty that we humans suffer and inflict in our dark innocence; and holds forth a vision of healing, compassion, and forgiveness that is so needed in our world.

Please enjoy the trilogy in sequence as these books take the reader on one continuous journey from evil and suffering through healing and transformation to love and awakening.
